Join the Cedar City Arts Council for the Fall Social on October 22nd, 2021
By: Shaylene Baruffi-Jensen
CEDAR CITY, UT: The Cedar City Arts Council sponsors networking socials for the community three times a year to become acquainted with some of the artists that live here in Iron County. The Cedar City Arts Council’s next social will be Friday October 22nd at 5:30 p.m. at the Utah Shakespeare Festival’s Patio near Fred Adams’ statue and outdoor theater at 200 West Center Street. These events are meant to showcase and celebrate some of the artists who have received mini grants from the Cedar City Arts Council. Our objective is to have live music, art displays, and reports on the use that the recipients have made of their awarded funds. This is a free public event.
Our Fall social will feature Addison Love on guitar, literary readings, and a variety of artists. The social will also include the Mayor's Proclamation in support of Arts and Humanities Month.
Our Annual Community Art Award will be presented to Cedar City’s beloved, Sally Hunter Jensen. Sally Hunter Jensen has performed in multiple theater and opera productions at SUU, Simon fest, and for the Parowan Community Theater. She worked with Utah Shakespeare Festival as an understudy and early on as a musician in pre-show and chorus, the first and second year that USF started matinees. Sally soloed with the American Folk Ballet. She was also the voice for Power 91 for many years and has done other voice work over the years. She served Cedar City Music Arts for many years including providing publicity. She has played piano for countless musicians as an accompanist and in musical pit orchestras, as well as performing as a vocal soloist for numerous recitals and community events. In addition, she runs the Wizz, a business that has engaged many young people in helping express their creativity, named as one of the Best of the Beehive. She is a Sigma Nu Sweetheart and received the Carmen Rose Hepworth Award from the SUU Alumni Association.
Everyone is encouraged to attend! Refreshments will be provided by Frank and Maryliz Harris and Palette Bakery.
